Opening Files

The file browser dialog that appears allows you to view either experiment files or backup experiment files. In the dialog, try selecting each of the "Experiment files" and "Experiment file backups" listed by the heading "Files of type:".

Restrictions on Opening Experiment Files

Each experiment file is stamped with the name and version of the data model that was used to create it. Only those files created with the same model name and version used by the application can be loaded.

To determine the model and version of the data model used in the application:

  1. Click on the Help Menu.
  2. Select the "Data Model Information..." option. A dialog should appear, showing the name and version of the data model being used.

There are two ways to find out the data model information recorded in an experiment file.

Method 1: Try opening it

Open the file. If no error occurs, then the file has the same name data model used by the application. If the models are incompatible, you will see the name and version of the data model in the error dialog.

Method 2: Use a text editor to open the XML file.

Use a text editor application to open the XML experiment file. The first line in any file will have a fragment that looks something like this:

schema name="FinlayLab" version="2.3"
